Week 2

By: Jamia Royal

2/4/2021

During the second week with Mrs. Sikora, the class started the same as last week by going over the calendar, counting the days of school. She went over their 100 days of school assignment. She also had them participate in a live poll to decide the goal reward of the week. The students were able to go to the polls and vote, majority of the students were able to do this with no problem. I was happy to see they were able to use google polls successfully, so I know that could be a resource I could use for my any of my lessons. I watched closely to their math lesson, they first start with timed word problems and they go over the ones they got incorrect. Students set a goal for the next page and try to reach that goal by solving another set of problems. Some of the students had said the problems this week were a bit harder than the ones before. The next math assignment was about length. The goal was for students to be able to order three different lengths but the students seem to be struggling with the concept of counting the boxes. I was thinking about joining tomorrow for a few hours to see if they were able to understand it better.

Some notes I will remember when teaching my lesson, when reading something underline or highlight key words. During the phonics the lesson, students use their dry erase boards. They were working on sight words and she using the read, write, say method. Once all the words all written they go back to say them aloud to their selves. They were kind of familiar with contractions and were working on words that blends with s, such as st, sp, and sl. When learning the words she would say, chop it up and write it down. Students into off into breakoff rooms for an writing assignment where students shared their ideas about the silly animal story they would be writing about. I enjoyed the time I had to interact with the children. I noted to remember to go over the word bank words before starting the assignment. They asked for ideas on how to start a story so maybe note to give options if they questions like that.

I noticed a few classroom management skills as well things like thumbs up when their ready and the tallies when students may not be following instructions. I did notice some of the kids like to their selves off mute. The students interact with one another very well which makes me a bit more comfortable when teaching my lessons. I enjoyed this week of observation with Mrs. Sikora.
