Today we had a little bit different schedule because my MT
had to leave early. She had a doctor's appointment, and the substitute teacher
took over after lunch. In the morning, the class had to listen to Erin's Law
Presentation. The presentation's content included safe and unsafe touch. The
presentation started with a read-aloud. While reading, the presenter paused and
discussed and used many examples to distinguish between safe and unsafe, comfortable and uncomfortable. The presentation was carefully crafted so that the students
are exposed to many examples of safe touch. I like that the present
stressed out that students can decide if they want to give a hug, kiss, or high
five to strangers and family members, or people they know. After the presentation,
the MT decided to move math to morning to instruct the math instead of the sub
teacher.
This day showed me how to change a schedule when the teacher
must leave early. My MT printed a plan for the sub with step-by-step
instructions to know exactly what to do. Therefore, when the teacher must miss
the school day or leave early, it is not just a phone call; the teacher must
prepare the day and go over detailed directions with the person that will
substitute. At the last minute, the students moved to the class next door
instead of a sub. The teacher must be flexible and ready to have more than just
one plan if she must miss or leave early.
You had a busy day Paulina! Loved having you in my neck of the woods the last half of the day! We definitely needed the help. LOL
ReplyDeleteHey, what a great opportunity for you to see what it looks like to ensure that your classroom runs smoothly when you're absent- leaving an explicit plan for the substitute to follow.
