Today Mrs. Proskurniaks' second-grade class started again at 9:00 am. The class began with a "Question of the day", where the students were asked; "If you were stranded on an island what three things would you need to survive?' The students had to record, decide, and report what three things they believed they would need to survive. The class then went into breakout rooms which I was a part of as well. My group of students believed they would need a blanket for when it's cold, food for when they get hungry, and water for when they get thirsty. I thought this was such a great start to their day as it gives them a somewhat intro into what their day will be like. Ms.Proskurniak of course asked her students if they enjoyed participating in the question of the day activity as a sort of poll which indicated to her if she would do it again. I highly enjoy when teachers give students the opportunity to give their opinion on a way of instruction.
Today was such a great day filled with many beneficial lessons. When the students came back to class after gym they engaged in creating a storytelling word web. They were asked what they think of when they hear the word "Storytelling". The students thought of very appropriate words like; narrator, setting, and characters. All of the students were on the right track of today's lesson. I wrote down plenty of notes as this lesson would help me so much with my interest inventory assignment which is assigned to us for our Lit in ECE class with Mrs.Kelly. The class then worked on boom deck which is a website the students have been using that has many different decks of cards which are basically more pages in a book. The students were instructed to work on finding the main character through many different stories. Throughout the whole day, I took away very beneficial ways of instruction that I will incorporate into my own teachings!
Hi Amy,
ReplyDeleteI loved hearing about the students question of the day. That sounds so fun that you were able to go into a breakout room with the students and hear their thoughts. I am also glad to hear that your CT has the students fill out a poll to see if they enjoyed the lesson. I think that is such a great way of engaging the students and seeing what they like.
